The Makely House est. 1880s

Built in 1880 by Frederick Best Makely and Mary Isabel Allen, The Makely House has stood as a cherished landmark in Hensonville for generations. Perched prominently on State Route 296, its wide, wrap-around porch offers a front-row seat to the beauty of the changing seasons.

After surviving a fire that nearly claimed it, the home was meticulously restored with care and craftsmanship, blending its historic charm with modern conveniences like central air and a propane stove. Most recently, The Makely House was lovingly maintained by a Marine and his wife, who elevated its comfort while preserving its warm, mountain character.

In 2024, we had the honor of becoming stewards of this remarkable home. Today, we invite you to experience its timeless magic and create memories of your own in this special place.

At The Makely House, we're committed to providing a thoughtful and welcoming experience for our guests while supporting our local community. We've recently enhanced our amenities, adding a relaxing hot tub and convenient stairs connecting the back deck to the backyard. Partnering with Wanderlust NY, a world-class property manager, we've curated a stay that combines style and comfort, including features like shampoo dispensers, keyless entry, noise monitors, fresh white linens, and locally sourced coffee.

Behind the scenes, we collaborate with an incredible network of local professionals—our handyman, cleaner, hot tub maintenance team, landscaper, snow removal crew, HVAC technician, and electrician—all working together to keep The Makely House in top shape. We take pride in being responsible hosts and good neighbors, ensuring our home is as enjoyable for our guests as it is respectful to the community.
